my brother from another mother was in town yesterday for his son’s swim meet. it was hot, the bleachers left my butt numb, there was a lot of down time between races i really cared about. something new though. i had never been to a swim meet before and didn’t know it was such a big deal. it’s like any sport. kids of all ages running around, parents with snacks, coolers, & swim supplies cheering their swimmer and team to victory.

missed yesterday.

the first of many distant thunderheads which bring humidity and only the small prospect of rain. the summer monsoon season is one of few chances for a weather change we get in the desert.

what was once cool green fields are now golden waves of grain. wheat to be exact. ready to be cut. thank goodness they don’t burn the leftovers like they used to. at least in the fields surrounding the office. other areas and mexico still burns fields and the smoke & ash drift through the area for days at a time.

my grandmother gave me 5 stuffed kitties. they are all identical except one is missing its tail. it wasn’t pulled off by grabbing children hands…it was just never there. i think these may have been given to her and my grandpa (before he died) as a joke because they do NOT like cats. because of this, family members would always think it was funny to give them cat-centric gifts. i like the kitties. they sit on my couch until cieran comes over. then they get moved all over the place. during christmas they each get differently tied ribbons around their necks. they like that.

caine is growing out his hair. it’s an unruly, crazy man hair do. especially now that he’s out of school for the summer. i’m not sure if he’s even brushing it anymore. i asked him to pose for a photograph to document THE hair but he wasn’t cooperating. finally deciding that he would make sassy accompany him in the shot. who as you can see is really happy about doing so.
he complains about his hair being too long saying it is too hot. but i’m not sure why it’s hot because he doesn’t do anything but stay indoors under the nice cool a/c playing video games. but anyway, i’m hoping he will hold out on the hair cut until at least the rest of the summer. to see how long he actually get it. but i have to admit that it looks out of control for the most part.

there is a slight shadow halo around his head that exagerates the length, but only slightly

a little jacket and dress that was given to my mom when she had me. but it was too small for her so she let me wear it. jk. my mom’s comments about the dress were 2:
1. it was dry clean only. who buys baby clothes that are dry cleaned only? unheard of.
2. the women who gave it to her was married to a crop duster, who while flying saw a man drowning in a canal. so he landed his plane, got out, saved the man from drowning and then drowned himself. seriously.

first off, let’s just ignore the fact that i didn’t post a daily photo yesterday. okay, moving on.
yesterday as i drove home i saw this person sitting in their motorized wheel chair under an umbrella fishing along the canal. although it was quite warm, it looked very relaxing.

after i took the first picture i noticed that further on down the canal there were a few kids swimming. with adult supervision if that even matters, may actually make it worse. but they seemed to be having a blast. with one kid taking a running leap from many feet back to enter the water with style. see him in the air under the sign?

my path to work has been interrupted both coming and going last week and into this week. i’m sure the sign guys are dreading the heat that is coming. it was 87 degrees this morning at 7:30am. yes in the morning. we are supposed to have a cold front move in and the temps should be around 108 tomorrow. lol it’s a cool down!

there are a couple of squirrels that visit our backyards. they run around the neighborhood looking cute while looking for snacks. i’m always a little stunned when i see one of them hopping across the road, sitting on the fence or scaling the wall of the house. (they can climb stucco by the way!) to me squirrels seem like a mountainous dweller that we would see while summer vacation camping in the white mountains or back east in the densely wooded suburban areas. not in an oasis of city in the midst of the sonoran desert!
