z…..

i actually made it. i posted every day, yes, every single day in april. so i fulfilled my NaBloPoMo requirements. although joining NaBloPoMo has made me post more i’m not sure if it has sparked any creativity in me. it became more of a have to instead of a want to. so i don’t think i’m going to do it next month. the theme is voices. which has me stumped anyway.

ZOE–zoe is a muppet. she might be related to grover. she’s cute.

ZOO–i like zoos. i try not to think about the poor animals living in small enclosures on display for their lifetimes. in spite of all that, i still like them. i think it’s my need for instant gratification. the animal is on display so you will get to see it unlike in nature. not that i’ve been any place where zebras and zebus (fancy cow-like animal) walk the street.

ZIPPO–i have a zippo lighter that someone gave me many, many years ago. it has my initials engraved on it. it has never been filled. i found it yesterday when i was looking through some boxes.

ZORG–the bad guy in one of the greatest movies of all time!

ZUCCHINI–there is a local mexican food restaurant here that makes a zucchini, cheese & misc vegetable bake. when they were in their old location they would serve it at their buffet and they had this older gentleman who was in charge of serving this dish. he would ask “how about some of this good calabacitas?” how could you refuse him? lol plus it was/is really good!

y….

YAKETY YAK–don’t talk back!

YARGH–at first i was thinking that this is what a pirate says. but then i realized it’s something a caveman would say.

lol capt caveman…remember him?

YAPPY–at my parents old house we each painted a mural on the inside backyard fence. we each had our own space. my mom painted a picture of their dog, their cat & their tarantula. next to each was their name. the cat=felix. the dog=fritz. and the tarantula didn’t really have a name. who really names a tarantula? so my dad named it that day. and it was yappy. who knows why though.

YOSEMITE/YELLOWSTONE–i was going to write this whole thing about going to yosemite and how we were on our way to montana in this huge motorhome. my mom was driving and my dad was navigating. the only thing my mom wanted to see was old faithful and my dad wrongly navigated us out of the park without seeing it. “accidently” of course. but then i figured out that old faithful isn’t in yosemite but it’s actually in yellowstone. which is a Y too so it works out. :-)

YOYO–caine went through a phase where everytime we went to the store he would want a yoyo. it would never last very long and he would quickly lose interest until the next time we went to the store and he would want another one.

x…

maybe i have been putting this off because of how hard it is to come up with words that start with X. i think that might be right.

X-RAY–i have had numerous xrays in my lifetime. my right upper arm, my leg, my nose, my hand. i also have my purse xrayed each time i go into jury duty.

XEROX–making copies.

XERISCAPE–landscape many people have at their homes and business, especially here in the southwest. where water can sometimes (and should all the time) be treated as a luxury item not to be squandered on acres and acres of grass. and just because it takes less water to groww doesn’t mean it can’t be colorful and alive. it’s doesn’t have to be concrete and a rocks.

XENA–warrior princess. there was an animated cartoon movie of xena and hercules. same voices as in the tv show. caine loved that movie. we would rent it at this local/non-franchise video rental store here in town. once i rented it and we didn’t take it back (for numerous bad reasons) and ended up paying $27 for the rental. which would have probably bought us 2 copies. lol oh well. it was a cute movie and sort of worth it.

oh any my favorite character from the tv show? the reason i would even think of watching it….

i don’t even remember the characters name. that’s the kind of person i am. ha ha ha

XBOX–caine’s job. i call it that since he has been known to spend as much time on there as he would at a full-time job!! yeah i know.

WINDEX–have you ever seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding? the dad thinks that everything can be cured with windex. he sprayed it on everything. i haven’t seen or heard that it really will cure things but i have read that you can kill ants with it. and it works. but i’m thinking that most any chemical sprayed on a tiny insect will kill it.

WHALE WATCHING–i’ve gone whale watching just once. it was fun. the whales are REALLY BIG! but they aren’t always easy to find despite their size.

WINTER–this is my favorite season. but i think that is because i live in an area that has mild weather and no snow.

WATERFALL–niagra falls is one of the places that i would like to visit sometime. and if you haven’t heard there is a big waterfall there with lots of water. but there are others that i wouldn’t mind seeing either.

niagra falls

havasu falls in arizona

victoria falls

WEST WETLANDS–there is a park in town that is called the west wetlands park. it has many walking paths, a small pond (urban lake?), a boat launch on the river, a regular playground and a BIG playground. the stewart vincent wolfe creative playground to be exact.

VACATION–caine & i am going to san onofre beach memorial day weekend. so far that is the only vacation i have planned right now. i can’t wait to wake up to the sound of the surf. the lazy days of doing nothing but lounging around and sitting on the beach. normaly our vacations are busy. we definitely don’t pack every minute with something but we have places to go and stuff to see. and this is totally different and very relaxing!

VOLUNTEER–i’m thinking of volunteering at the local red cross. with our influx of snow birds, aka winter residents, during the cooler months they are pretty good about volunteering around town. but when they go to their summer homes they leave a dent in many organizations. so i thought this would be something i could do.

VIRGIN MARY–i’m intrigued by those appearances of the virgin mary. on windows, on a concrete wall, in grilled cheese, or in tile. i don’t always see what other people see but it interests me that so many people will see it.

VOTE–are you voting this coming november? i am. and if you aren’t then you should. takes only minutes. your voice will be heard. not registered yet? do it now and get ready to vote.

VEGETARIAN–i was a vegetarian along with my cousin for a few months while in jr. high school. it was’t too difficult especially since at that time someone else was in charge of feeding me. i could be a vegetarian easily though. i don’t cook myself meat. but i will eat meat in restaurant. i guess i could be a vegetarian out of laziness. ;-)

VEIN–when i got my blood drawn last time the lady who took had to do it twice. each time she would do a quick jabbing motion into my arm. as if she was puncturing leather and not my delicately thin skin. and once she was in she would root around with the tip of the needle saying “oh wow, i thought i had it” “it was just there a minute ago” and my personal favorite “it hurts doesn’t it?”…yeah she said that. i think she liked that it hurt.

UMBRELLA–living in the desert doesn’t give you many opportunities to use umbrellas. but that doesn’t keep me from buying them often. i will buy one on the off chance that the 20% chance of rain will be upgraded to an 80-90% chance. but normally that will just jinx it all and no rain will come. then the next time there is a real possibility of rain i don’t even know where that umbrella is that i had purchased 7 months before. oh and then there is always the nice feeling you get when you do find that umbrella that you paid too much for and only used once and it’s rusted so badly that it won’t even open or if you do get it opened it’s got a rogue metal piece sticking out in such a position that walking in a crowd is not possible.

UDDER–caine and i were flipping through the channels and we ran across this cartoon with cows in it. i guess there were all kinds of animals in there and the animals stood around on 2 legs (if they have 4) and talked. but when people came around they went back to all fours acting like animals. anyway, ALL the cows have udders. the boys & girls…both have udders. disturbing and confusing. so i searched and searched for this cartoon so i could post a picture. but i have come up empty! <<gasp>>

URGENT–as i’ve stated previously i have a problem with hearing lyrics correctly. well i think it’s correct but they aren’t always right. there is a song by foreigner called urgent. i always thought it said VIRGIN when it actually said URGENT. and i was always amazed that they would be able to play that song at the fair or on the radio or at the roller rink (yeah it was the 80s). it seemed so racy and totally inappropriate which made me want to sing it (wrongly) very, very loud!

UNICORN–they are pretty.

UNTOUCHABLES–a movie with a young kevin costner. it plays a lot on cable tv but i have never seen it. old mob story, i think.

TEACHER–growing up i wanted to be a kindergarten teacher. i look back at it now and i’m glad i didn’t. i know people who have either taught or student taught that grade and they said it was exhausting. and i can only imagine that it was even worse than that. 20+ kids ages 4 or 5 in one room trying to get them to do that same thing? not the easiest job in the world. that is for sure!

TELETUBBIES–i don’t get the appeal. but they are cute and then the baby as the sun? pretty trippy!

TEMP-AGENCY–when i lived in san diego i worked for a couple of temp agencies. it was fun. work when you wanted, or don’t work if you don’t want to. new people, new companies. once i worked at the double tree hotel in mission valley and they had a cafeteria for their employees and everyone who worked a full shift got a meal. they had fruit danishes. those were the best.

TOLL BRIDGE–once we were on vacation and we drove to visit friends in san francisco. we came into the city from the east through oakland and we came across the bay bridge which had a toll. but aw we were driving up the toll before going across i realized that either my purse or my change (i can’t remember which) was in the trunk. so i had to pull into the area between the toll slots you drive through and get into the trunk for the money. so it’s pitch black dark and the cars are rushing by at break neck speeds and i’m in an area that i’ve never been. it’s was nerve wracking for sure!

REALITY TELEVISION–i love reality tv. well some of it. i don’t like all of it. i dont’ watch the dance shows at all. not even a little bit. and the singing/talent ones i barely tolerate. but the ones i can’t stand are the ones with all the drama (real world & their challenge shows, the real bad girls, the housewive shows, etc.) as much as i hate them i will find myself in conversations about them. and although i swear up and down that i just happened to catch a small part of this one episode while i was flipping around i realize that i know a lot about the show (too much) and that i have probably seen most episodes of all the shows i hate. but when i say hate i must mean love or why would i sit through multiple episodes during a marathon. i also love rob & big (see previous post).

REPUBLICANS–i hope we do not have another republican president in november.

RUSSIAN–did you see eastern promises? russian mob, human trafficing. viggo mortensen

in eastern promises. one of the things that makes vm one of my favorite actors is that he is able to convincingly pull off accents. unlike some people who’s attempts are annoying, distracting, and unsuccessful vm does the accent justice. and i would think it’s especially hard for him because he does have a fairly distinctive voice normally. although i had seen him in other movies prior i think my first real notice of him was in LOTR trilogy. where he played stryder/aragon/the king.

RAIN–i love the rain. it’s my favorite weather. seriously, you don’t have a favorite weather? lol although it doesn’t rain very often in the desert here, it’s a beautiful time when it does. there is a clean smell that is reminiscent of the creosote bush found all over in the desert.

ROSE–i love the smell of roses. the flowers and in candles. it reminds me of the imperial fair and one of the vendors there that sold i think glass figurines. you know the ones they make in front of you. well they also sold fake roses or something. i’m not sure what the connection was but i will never forget that smell. i have a rose candle on my desk that i will pop open from time to time if things get a little funky around here. ;-)

ROUND TABLE PIZZA–one of our regular eating places. they know us. not in the “christmas card receiving way” the chinese food place knows us but they know us. we had it delivered once to my parents house a while back and the driver asked me when i opened the door “don’t you live over in those apts?” that’s bad when the delivery driver knows where you live! but ultimately the food is good and we both like it and that’s saying something! plus it’s locally owned & just down the street. that’s always good right. support the neighborhood. and our chinese food place (fortune cookie) is one business away. so when we walk into one or the other i liked to do it so that the other place we aren’t going to can’t see it. i don’t want to hurt their feelings! decisions, decisions.

QUANTUM LEAP–remember this tv show? i’m not sure why, but the main character would “leap” into other people’s bodies and then while he was there he would have to solve a problem or deal with some kind of issue that he had to make right. once everything was settled he would leap out to the next body. but he never really knows for sure what he’s supposed to make right. so he has a sidekick that is a hologram and he helps him figure out what the problem is he’s supposed to make right. it was a pretty funny show. because the main character, who is a guy, would sometimes leap into women’s bodies and then you’d see him wearing a dress. we would all see the actor but all the other characters would see whoever he leaped into. it was a good show. it starred scott bakula. i remember my sister loved him! lol the other night i was flipping through the channels and this show was on. i guess one of the cable channels brought it back.

QWERTY–this is what they call a “normal” computer keyboard. for some reason i didn’t put 2 and 2 together and realize that QWERTY was the top left row of letters. um, duh! but did you know this isn’t the only type of keyboard? they also have a dvorak or simplified keyboard. they have one-handed keyboards for the right and left hands. i guess for those who are serious multi-taskers. :-)

there is alos a colemak. this version is supposed to put less stain on the overworked pinky fingers. :-) i have to admit after typing on my QWERTY keyboard, my pinkies do get a little stiff and tired.

QUAIL–not the former vice president. that’s quayle (i think). i’m talking about the little birds who live in groups called coveys. i’m not sure i have ever seen them flying. normally they are seen walking in a group. they are super cute because they have this feather(s) that form a little top not.

QUARTER–do you collect state quarters? no? well i’m a nerd and i do. i’m not a serious numismatic so i don’t really care if they are uncirculated or their condition or which mint they came from. but i do like a nice clean and shiny coin after it’s been through the washer. the state quarter program started in 1999 and ends this year. the u.s. mint issues 4 quarters a year for each of the 50 states in order of when they became states. arizona became a state in 1912 and is the 48th coin to be issued. it comes out in june with only alaska and hawaii to come after that.
